on campus i am involved with a branch of associated students called 'coalition for social action.'there are about 9 of us that meet weekly to discuss ways and ideas for BIOLA students to be exposed to what is really going on in the world, particularly in terms of global poverty and social justice.
we have fundraisers, arrange nights where we invite special speakers come and talk to the student body and do whatever we can to raise
awareness about certain issues going on in the world.
for the last week and a half CSA has had a table outside the cafeteria during lunch where students can donate money to red cross which will ultimately go to hurricane relief victims in haiti.
at our meeting on wednesday night we decided that we needed to take things a step further so last night 5 of us went door to door across campus to tell people about what we were doing and to ask for clothing/blanket donations. there is a student here who acts as our on-campus liason with red cross and she put boxes in all the lobbys so people can continue donating until friday.
it took my friend, cameron, and i several hours to cover our assigned areas but we had a great time! a lot of people were super responsive and some even had bags of clothes waiting for us when we got to their rooms so it was really encouraging :)
now all the clothing cameron and i collected is laying in a huge pile on the floor in my room and the rest are in the as office. i can't wait to put it all together to see how much was donated!
since last night ended up taking much longer that we had anticipated i missed the indonesia meeting but i called dr. mcmahan to tell him i wouldn't be able to make it so we're going to get together early next week to discuss the trip.
today is just exciting!
