valentine's day.

might be my new favourite holiday, at least for the way it occured this year...

and just why was this year so special?

i would love to tell you.

for starters, (for the 20th year in a row) i did not have a valentine.

to some this a tragic and demeaning state of being, but to me, it is the blankest of canvases and the brightest of futures. not being romantically involved with someone is particularly thrilling to me at this point in life because it allows me

so

much

time.

i think time is something so misconceived because while everyone is aware that we never have enough of it, we forget we have it at all and that in having it we have

endless

possibilities.

endless. possibilities. endless possibilities.

i'd like to take my endless possibilities around the world a time or two to see where they take me before i succumb to the fate of the rest of my natural born life.

valentine's day is an excellent reminder of this.

i also love vday because (while i may seem like a cynic) i am a romantic at heart and love celebrating lovers, even when there is an inescapable explosion of them i.e. vday weekend '09 catalina island

i also love valentine's day because it is a (hallmark) holiday which means:

people go to restaurants and order things that they wouldn't typically order ("why yes, i would love to serve you a bottle of veuve cliquot with filet mignon and lobster tails")

so i get to dote on precious couples while also making bank. hell yea.

and chocolate covered strawberries.

need i say more?

OH WAIT. but there IS more

to make this valentine's day even more wonderful than normal, the weather

was

PERFECT!!

and by perfect, i mean perfect.

it has been warm, sunny & delicious.

+ the island is green as ever due to the freakish amounts of rain over the past few weeks

there have been boats in the harbour and yesterday afternoon, as the sun was setting and the temperature was perfect, i was outside waiting on a table when i saw a man paddle by with his son on the board with him.

oh, yesss.

. . . there has been tons more going on but i just wanted to give valentine's day some unadultered attention since it's so, you know, friekin awesomeee.
